AFROPUNK 2022

Afropunk is probably one of my favorite festivals and events that happens here in NYC. I must say that, although it was a bit smaller of a festival that what I am used to, it still gave off the same vibe that it always had since the beginning. It may have not been as intense or as large as it has been in the past, if you factor in the pandemic, the festival still did well and the performers felt loved and gave us their best performance. I never go there know all of the artist that are playing but there were some that proved themselves on the stage, bring that energy and that vibe that makes us all feel proud to be black and to enjoy the punk scene. Hopefully next year there will be more punk rock, hopefully mosh pits come back, and overall I hope we continue to nurture the culture that is BLACK!

Harlem Week

Harlem Week is always awesome in NYC! It is always filled with leaders who address our everyday struggles while still celebrating the past and what the people of Harlem have gone through. I personally love Harlem because they are my ancestors, I am from Bed-Stuy originally and many of the people of color from Bed-Stuy were first natives of Harlem. While there I got to hear from commissioners and their plans for decreasing violence in Harlem, I got to hear them talk about all types of oppotunities for NYC natives, and there were performances that celebrated the latino, West Indian, and West African cultures that reside in this area.

Metropolitan Mondays

Every Monday The Metropolitan located in Williamsburg have the best drag shows ever, it starts pretty late but if you are looking to have a good time this is the place to go. I must say, singles flying in the air is not what I would expect but the show that these ladies bring deserve more than just some singles. There are all types of flips and tricks that they do and their music selection is amazing. They also have contest in-between the performances where they give out free drinks! I personally believe it for some reason you are off on a Tuesday (I am lol) you should definitely go out of the box with your NYC experience and check out The Metropolitan around 11 pm! Hey you may even catch me there!

Check out the Queens Brewery in Bushwick! Great place for good fresh beer, play arcade games and board games, and check out cool shows and events during the night. Recommended place to see some of the local artist in the area of Bushwick and Ridgewood.
